These things are more important for your website than how it looks

Of course, you want a website that is on brand, matches your aesthetic and completely captures the vibe of your offerings - a website that really represents your business.

However, there are a few things that are far more important than the look of your website, for it to be able to serve your buisess the best. Your people have to be able to find it and be able to interact with it easily.

The most important things to consider before embarking on your website creation are:

1 - Overall brand strategy

You have a SOLID Brand strategy in place already, where you know the ins and outs of what your brand is and whom it speaks to - so that you know how to connect with and speak to them! I do not suggest banging out a website before spending some time ironing your strategy out - it will save you so much time going forward and help you be able to speak directly to your dream customer.

2 - Website structure

Consider what you want your user to do on your different pages, and strutcure your content accordingly so that it will be as easy as possbile for them. Don’t assume that your users know how to find their way around your page, and clearly guide them with buttons and links.

3 - Keep it simple

A few things have become common practice in the web-world, and it is best to stick to these as users expect them :
Make sure that your logo in your header and footer link to your home page (you don’t necessarily need a ‘home’ in yout navigation since we are so used to this function).

Keep all of your contact details in the footer.

4 - SEO & website traffic

Of course, you want to rank highly in search engines and be found by your dream customers, but how do you make sure of this? There is a reason why SEO is it’s whole own thang, with experts that write niche specific content and such, but you can do a fair bit on your own too!
Set yourself up with a solid foundation by making sure that you are using Heading tags correctly (there should only be ONE H1 tag present per page), meta-data and alt-tags. Make sure to use your keywords in your meta-descriptions too!

5 - Website speed

A slow loading website will impact your ranking, and can be extremely frustrating for visitors to use (and they likely won’t stay very long). Make sure that you compress all of your images and video- tinypng can help you do this. I’d also recommend going easy on animations.

6 - Responsiveness for smaller screens

This is particularly important if you are planing on generating traffic from Instagram or other social media channels. So make sure that your website is easy too use on smaller screens too!
