3 steps to get your website to show up in Google & other search engines
How do I show up in Google?
This is the million dollar question in the website game, so let’s break it down!
1 - create a Google business profile!
This is how you show up on Google maps with photos, reviews and location etc. especially important if you are a business serving a local. It’s super easy to do, and free :)

2- Create a Google search console account and submit your Sitemap.
This is a way of speeding up the indexing process - aka make Google recognise your content faster and correctly populate it in search results. This will happen organically if you don’t to it, just by your website existing on the interwebs but usually we like faster!

3 - Go through the SEO checklist from Squarespace, or your Platform of choice
If you have a Squarespace website, checkout the SEO checklist from it is easy to follow and shows you where all the settings are! If I have created your website, I’ve already set all basic on page seo up for you and you won’t need to do anything there :)

Some key things you’ll find on every SEO check-list, includes:
SEO meta descriptions for each page
ALT text for your images (this is a great way to get some descriptive and relevant keywords in!)
A clear hierarchy on every page, through H1-H6
No dead links or buttons! Check all your links, both internal and others regularly
Do keep in mind that SEO and search engine ranking is a long game, and you will not be detect improvements you’ve made right away. It can take weeks until implemented edits are noticeable through your ranking - The reason being that user interaction is a big part of how search engines rank you, and you need to give users some time to interact with your content (and Google & co to ‘measure’ it). So don’t get discouraged if you do all the steps above today and don’t see instant results!
